I Hate The Time Change

I can not believe it has been 12 days since my last post.
I do not know were the time goes.
Since the clocks were turned back last month it is getting darker way to early and it seems to have a affect on me.
I know that during the winter the lack of sunshine depresses lots of people.
But I got to wondering if the time change causes people to feel down and so I looked it up, and sure enough it can mess up some peoples circadian rhythms ( internal body clock )

So what do I think of the Seventh Generation natural dish liquid ?

The first thing I was surprised by was how light the scents are.
You can barely smell them .
That is not a bad thing but they smell so fresh and natural I wish the scent was a little stronger.
But it is always better for a scent to be mild than over powering.

Now along with the Seventh Generation natural dish liquids I also received a stoneware baking dish from Le Creuset
I just have to say WOW I Love this baking dish!
I made some baked spaghetti in the dish hoping that it would be hard to clean.
Then I got out the Lemongrass and Clementine Zest along with the two twist scour pads
Well I was a little disappointed because I had no trouble cleaning the pan.
The dish soap worked great it cut the grease in the pan with very little scrubbing.
Now I do not wash dishes my hand to much just my pots and pans.
The one thing that I always have to be careful about is the detergent bothering my hands.
I have been using the Seventh Generation natural dish liquid soaps to wash my pots and pans everyday now for about a month.
I have not had any problems with rashes on my hands.
I have lots of skin and allergy issues,so I think that if I can use a product with no problems then it will be OK for most people to use.
I also noticed that I do not need to use a lot of the dish liquid to clean my pots and pans so a bottle will last long.
So now I have no excuses for not washing the pots and pans.

I am very pleased with how will the dish liquids work I love the Fresh Citrus and Ginger scent it is my favorite.

I am a member of the Carmex Blog Squad and recently got the chance to do a review of the
Carmex Healing Cream and the Carmex Healing Lotion.

My first thought about the products was what is the difference?

Well the Carmex Healing Lotion is for everyday use to soothe and protect your skin.
The Carmex Healing Cream helps to repair your driest roughest skin.That would be my elbows.

So what do I think of the products?
First my thoughts on the Carmex Healing lotion.
Sometimes when I use lotions on my skin they can really bother my skin. I do not have any problems with this using the Carmex healing lotion.
The lotion is not runny so when you squeeze the tube it comes out nice. So it is easy to get just the amount you like.
The lotion spreads nice and does not leave your skin all tacky.
The smell is nice and not over powering so both male and female can use the product.

The Carmex Healing Cream is a thicker product than the lotion and rubs in nicely on the really dry patches on my skin.
The Healing Cream like the lotion has a nice light scent that is not overpowering.

I also got two travel size containers of both products. I want to mention that because of the bold yellow coloring on the containers it is easy to find them in my purse. That is a big plus.

So you would think a company named KidsPartyWorld would have lots of fun supplies for kids parties.
Well they do they have a large selection everything from Justin Bieber to Dinosaur party supplies.
But what you might not know is that they all so carry a great selection for us big kids stuff like Hollywood movie party supplies and Casino Party supplies.

I recently got the chance to review some casino and poker party supplies, and when I say some that is what I mean.

I got a nice selection to review, but the amount of other products in the casino and poker party lines is huge.
Things like
Roulette Set
Casino Platter
Just to name a couple, and the prices are great.

So what did I think of the items I received?
Just look how great they look

I thought they were very nice.
The colors on everything were very vibrant.
The quality of the items was good.
The plates were not heavy duty but they were not flimsy good for snack foods.
I love the Casino Party Cascade Centerpiece I left it on my table after the card party.

If you are a Alice in Wonderland fan you could use lots of the items from the casino /card line for a party.

After receiving my items to review I will buy from KidsPartyWorld
The website does not show you how the items really look. So if you are a little hesitant I would say, don't be.

Do you check your bill?

I live pretty far from most stores.
I learned years ago to always check my bill for mistakes before I leave the store, that way I can take care of them right away.
Other wise I may forget.
I do not usually have problems at most retail stores.
But grocery stores that is another thing. I am always finding mistakes.
Items that are on sale but do not ring up right. Being charged for the wrong fruit etc.
Some store are so bad that I will not shop at them.
Is it just me?
Do you have problems with items ringing up wrong?

I made something really good
I had everything I needed to make homemade hoagies that is except for the bread.
So I decided to make a pizza dough and put the meat and cheeses on the dough and bake it.
Then I cut that up into squares and put my hoagie toppings on the one and topped it with the other.(like a sandwich)
Boy was it good everyone really liked these.

My review of the nuts
All I can say is o my these were so good. I could not stop eating them.
The candied pecan ones tasted like the kind of nuts they have at festivals but better.
When I tried the garlic almonds my first thought was I am not going to like these.I was wrong about that they are good!

The nuts are so fresh.
That was the first thing I noticed when trying them, all the nuts were very fresh and crisp tasting.
The bags seal up nice and are easy to close.
There are very few broken nuts in the packages just nice fresh big whole pieces.
So I went to the Sante website thinking these are going to cost a pretty penny.
But the prices are good.

You are probably wondering what this is well I forgot to take the picture before we ate.So I took a picture of what was left before I put it away. When we went food shopping a got a couple of small packs of cut up pork on sale. I froze the one and was trying to decide what to do with the other and I found a pork and cabbage soup recipe. I had most of the ingredients and improvise the others and the soup it great.

So here is my recipe.

Pork and cabbage soup

cubed boneless pork any amount between 1/2 pound -3/4 pound
2 cups of cut up carrots
1 cup celery cut in small pieces
1 medium size chopped onion
4 cups chopped white cabbage
1 medium potato peeled and cubed
2 cloves chopped garlic

1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup diced tomatoes can or fresh
4 cups chicken broth
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon black pepper

brown the pork pieces if some pieces are larger than others cut them up you want the pieces to be in the same size range so that the cook the same.
sweat the vegetables (do not sweat the tomatoes ) about 5 minutes until soft
then stir in the brown sugar
add the diced tomatoes chicken broth and crushed tomatoes season with the black pepper.
let simmer on stove about 2 hours.
This is a nice hearty soup great meal. with some homemade bread and salad

Oh I hate that

I bought a button shirt last year a expensive one. I got it on clearance of course.
But here is the thing the shirt is nice and soft and comfortable. But I can only wear it around the house.
Why because every time I wear it the buttons pop open and I do not mean just one. No all of them.
I just went out on the porch and my shirt was wide open.
I could see if the shirt was tight or something but it fits great. Oh well I guess it could be worse at least I always wear a bra so I can't really scare anyone.

We had baked chicken breast with corn homemade rolls and potatoes

I did something a little different with the potatoes

I sliced up a medium size onion and saute it in some butter then tossed in sliced potatoes and some sour cream and seasoned with salt and pepper.

Then I covered the pan and baked them in the oven with the chicken. It was good.

I have learned over the years never boil my hot dogs yucky, and not to waste money on cheap hot dogs . I wait until good ones go on sale.
The two brands that we really like are Hebrew National and Nathans,

The older I get the faster times goes. I swear Dr. Who is missing with time.

Ripping of The Tax payer

I was watching the news the other day and they had a segment on government waste.
It was about how the government paid a outrages about of money for muffins and brownies at a conference. Yeah we all know the government is great at wasting the tax payers money and it is disgusting how wasteful the government is.
Who are these people that set up these conference do they not question the cost ?
Is that not someones job?
They know how much it is and they still ok it ?
What is wrong with you people.
Also how about the companies that charge the government the outrages amount of money for muffins etc.
Well in my opinion you are just has bad you are also ripping the tax payer of.
I wonder if there is a list of companies that charged the government to much for stuff.
I would sure like to see it so that I will avoid giving them any of my business.

Well here is one from a few weeks ago when it was really hot out.
One thing I do not do when it is hot is use my oven I either cook in the crock pot or on the grill
So I cooked on the grill that night we had pie shaped meatloaf and scalloped potatoes and salad.

My son has a nice camera on is phone. So I am now using his digital camera.
I was always afraid to use it because I thought I might break it.
I am good a breaking things, my husband always says that I should work for under writers laboratory. (are they still around ?) If it can be broke I can do it.
I do not think I will break the camera. Now the tripod that is another thing.

The impact left a gaping, burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. As the evacuation of the tower and its twin got underway, television cameras broadcasted live images of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second Boeing 767--United Airlines Flight 175--appeared out of the sky, turned sharply toward the World Trade Center, and sliced into the south tower at about the 60th floor. This month we’re rallying behind Melanie, a wonderful mother of four who recently got hit by a car while walking near her home outside of Boston. We are all so thankful she pulled through, but now the long road to recovery begins – and with that comes many unforeseen expenses.
Our mission is to help customize her home to her new physical limitations. The three things she could really use right now are a front-loading washer and dryer, as well as a new stove with front controls so she can continue providing for her family. Review Heelys shoes

I always loved skating. So I was very excited when I got the chance to work with B2B to review a pair of Heelys.
In case you do not know what Heelys are they are shoes with wheels that can be installed to make them into very comfortable heel style skate shoes.
Heelys come in a large selection of styles for everyone.
I got the wave style in gray and pink.
The shoes are made well and have good support. Great walking shoes.Very comfortable.
Before installing the skate portion of the shoe I watched the slide shoe on the website Skate 101
It was very easy to understand and informative and for those of you who are more adventurous the site has all kinds of tricks to try.
Now I was ready to install my wheels. I am probably the most un mechanical inclined person around just ask my husband.
So lets see how I did.
I was able to get the plug out right away very simple to do.
I was able to get the wheel in easily.
I had trouble removing the wheel had to get my husband to help me with that part.
Now I have skated before but doing heelys is different from skating because you have to lift up the front of your feet.So that you are skating on your heels
So this is going to take me a good while to get the hang of. But the good part about learning to use the heelys is that when you put your foot down you stop. I love that.
Now I am older and my kids are grown up. But if they were younger I would buy them a pair. Heelys are a great way to get exercise have fun and would be very easy for a child to learn to do. Great low cost family fun.

I got the one wheel heelys they also come with two wheels. Two wheels are better for a beginner. I am still working on getting comfortable with the one wheel ones. I would recommend any one that is out of shape or who is use to skates to get the two wheel shoes. You do not have to balance yourself has much. This is the hardest part for me to get use to.
I have been trying my heelys on and off for a couple of weeks and I am not ready to go heely yet. But when I do I will post a picture of me heely.

As another Halloween approaches and I think about buying chocolate as “treats” for children, here is something to consider: The chocolate you buy could be tainted with child labor.

Monday, September 19th marks the ten-year anniversary of the signing of the Harkin-Engel Protocol -- an agreement by the country’s largest chocolate companies to put an end to forced child labor on cocoa farms in West Africa by 2005.

Ten years later, not enough progress has been made. Hundreds of thousands of children are still forced to work under abusive conditions for long hours on cocoa farms in West Africa, while others are victims of trafficking and forced labor.

The largest chocolate manufacturer in the United States, Hershey, lags behind its competitors in eliminating these abuses from its cocoa supply chain. Some of Hershey’s competitors, including Mars and Nestle, have committed to start sourcing cocoa that is independently certified to comply with labor rights standards.

It is hard to believe Hershey -- the most iconic chocolate company in the USA is sourcing cocoa from plantations that use child labor.
This is a company who was started my Milton Hershey who along with his wife Catherine created the Milton Hershey School , The mission of the school is to nurture and educate children in social and financial need to lead fulfilling and productive lives.
Yet the Hershey company continues to knowingly buy cocoa from farms using child labor.
I will be looking for fair trade candy to hand out this year for Halloween so that means no Hershey candy bars in our pumpkin

Carmex is one of those product lines that has been around forever and they just came out with two new premium lip balms Vanilla and Lime Twist.
Has a member of the Carmex blog squad I get to review both of them.
So what did I think?

Lets start with the vanilla it has three additional moisturizers so it ultra moisturizing for your lips
It also contains SPF 15 sunscreen.
I thought the lip balm went on really nice and easy that is a big plus when your lips are really chapped.
It also coated them well so I did not have to keep using it.So that means the stick will last long.
The vanilla scent is very light so if you are used to a strong fake vanilla scent you may not like it.
I liked how the scent was very light but I myself would not chose this scent I am sick of vanilla this and vanilla that.
But if you like vanilla and do not like a strong fake scent this is the one for you.

Next is the Lime Twist it contains the same ingredients has the vanilla except of course a different flavor. Now this is the flavor for me I like this one it reminds me of lime soda. Both lip balms are available at Walgreens, Walmart and CVS stores and of course like all carmex products the price is good.

So I was thinking is there anything I did not like about the new lip balms.
Not really the only thing I could think of is that since they are so soft that they might kind of melt in the really hot hot weather.

This month we’re working with two of the sweetest sisters you’ll ever meet. Lucy was a healthy young woman until last fall, when she discovered that she had aplastic anemia, a very rare, life-threatening disease. A bone marrow transplant is Lucy’s best chance for survival, and her sister Tracy is a perfect match.
These two women and their family are sticking together and working through the toughest time of their young lives, so this month we want to join forces with them and provide six months of insurance payments for Lucy.

Where Your Money Goes

As you can imagine, Lucy has a ton of medical bills associated with her illness. And not only Lucy, but Tracy as well, who has spent all her money and vacation time to help battle through this with her sister. The good news right now is that Lucy still has insurance, but the premium is around $500 a month, and she really worries about making sure she can pay it going forward.
Retaining her insurance is a lifeline to saving all the money she can on medical bills in the future (even though it’s still going to be a lot), so we’d like to ease her mind by paying the next six months of premiums for her. If our team can come together to provide the $3,000 necessary to do that, it will take a huge burden off her mind, and help her focus on getting healthy again after surgery.

How You Can Help

This project is all about coming up with creative and fun
ways to make a difference for someone. Here’s what you

My thoughts about the book.
The first few pages of the book made me think the story was going to be about Larry and the bleeder. But it is not really. To me the story is about how people in a small southern town go about their every day lives during the 1960s and how old prejudices keep two teenage boys from a friendship and how they deal with it with music.
The book was a little slow in the beginning but it grew on me. This is the type of book that after I read it I realize how much I enjoyed it.

It was not to bad, but could of been have been really good if they would have went for a more intense story line. Thought the actor Daniel Craig did a great job with his part.

I saw something today that I have never seen before.
We were just done having breakfast at a local restaurant.
A group of about 20 people came in and they had a dog. Not a seeing eye dog. A little fluffy dog on a leash, and the server seated the group with the dog. I have never seen a dog in a sit down restaurant before and for the life of me can not figure out why it was allowed.
So I did a little looking on the Internet found a couple of neat sites

Some of the cool things that some disabled assistance dog can do

They can pick up really difficult to reach things such as a phone, keys or a wallet. Some can even pick up a credit card!
Our dogs help people to get dressed and undressed, they even tackle zips!
They collect the post rather than attack the postman!
They load and unload the washing machine. (Yes, really!)
They can open doors
They can interrupt a child’s tantrum
They can stop a child from running into the road
They can play games – one even plays pairs with his owner
They can speak – although their conversation is a little limited!
They can press the button on a pedestrian crossing

Perhaps it was a dog for the disabled. I will have to ask our regular server next time we are at the restaurant.

Do You have a Special Holiday Picture? The picture above is a very old and special Christmas photo.
The little girl in the photo is me with my mom standing behind me along with my sister and favorite aunt.
The photo is the only one I have of just us girls so that makes it special.
But the reason it is so special is that my mom had recently came home from the hospital after a long stay due to cancer. So it was a very happy occasion.

Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow in concert

A few weeks ago I got the chance to see Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow in concert.
I like both of them so I thought it would be a nice fun evening.
Sheryl sang first and was great. Then later she sang with Kid Rock which was awesome.
Now I said I liked Kid Rock, But after seeing the show I love Kid Rock.
I had Know idea that he was so good!
I have seen lots and lots of performers over the years and I think his show is one of the best I have ever seen.
Now I am a HUGE fan of Kid Rock.
So if the Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow Born Free tour is coming to your area if you get the chance definitely go and see them.

FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. There are two types of aliens that the human survivors have named Skitters and Mechs. Combining live action and special visual effects, the Skitters have spider-like bodies and incredible strength and agility. The deadly, robotic Mechs stand upright and can shoot bullets from their arms. The aliens control captured children, like Tom's son Ben, through bio-mechanical harnesses but have yet to reveal their ultimate plan for them.

Linksys E4200 Review

Last month I received the Linksys E4200 router to review.
First let me say I do not take care of the computers in the house.
I am one of the lucky ones, my son takes care of all of that. So I do not really know much about routers but my son does.
So he is the one who actually set the Linksys E4200 router up and reviewed it.
We already have a top of the line router that we have been using so we were able to compare the Linksys E4200 features to the one we had.

So here is what my son and I thought of the Linksys E4200 router.

First those of you that buy lots of computer parts or in fact any thing that is shipped directly to you house know how important it is that the item is packed well.
The Linksys E4200 router packaging was good.
The router has a nice slim profile so it does not take up any room.
The router was easy to configure and has a great wireless range.
It does not have any external antennas put works as well has the top of the line one we have that has three external antennas.
We have been using it over a month and have not had to reset it at all.
My son usually has to reset the router several times during the month .
My son was originally just going to review the Linksys for a couple of weeks and then go back to using the router we had, but the Linksys works so well that he decided to continue using it.

The only thing that we were surprised about is the router is not wall mount friendly that was surprising for a good router and some people may not like that.

My son says that besides the fact it is not wall mount friendly the Linksys E4200 is a great router and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high end router.

My review of the book.
When I read the first few pages I thought oh crap a book for teenagers.
But I was so wrong. Yeah a teenager would love this book. But so would a fifty year old woman.
The characters are well developed and interesting no one is boring is this book.
But lots of people are just so wrong.
Gates has a major crises in is life and no one to help him.
I am sure lots of us have felt that way at one time or another.
Gates has lots of people in his life and no one to understand his problem. He attempts a few times to talk about it but no one takes him seriously.
He could tell Mel she would probably understand and help him but it is to much of a risk for him to take the chance on losing her.
The book was very entertaining and disturbing at the same time, Gates is a interesting character and you want to know what is going to happen next in is totally screwed up life.

Finally the rain has stopped it has been raining just about everyday for the last two months. So I have been dying to do my review and giveaway for Flavorwood. So I finally got to try it out today. So what exactly is Flavorwood? It is a neat little can that produces natural wood smoke in charcoal gas or electric grills. Yeah finally I can smoke using my gas grill.
Flavorwood comes in six different flavors
Apple
Pecan
Peach
Mesquite
Cherry
Hickory
One little can will produce a hour of smoke. The smoke flavor can be reused if you used it less than a hour. So you can usually get several meals from one can.

Here are some facts that you may not of know about Flavorwood.

Flavorwood is convenient. No soaking wood and wrapping in foil. Just remove the labels and place on the grill.

Flavorwood is easy to store. No need to carry around heavy bags of wood chips or wood chunks. All you need for an hour worth of smoke time is contained in one little can.

Easy to clean up. No need to clean up ash out of your barbecue. Just remove the Flavorwood can and you're done.

Flavorwood is a more efficient way to smoke. Compressed wood pellets last longer and produce denser, more concentrated smoke than wood chips, chunks, or blended charcoal.

So what did I think of Flavorwood
Well at first I was not sure how to use in on my grill. The directions are a little vague on were to place it. On a charcoal grill you place right in the coals.
But I have a gas grill with no briquettes so I placed it under the cooking surface on the burner but not directly under the meat. This worked well .
I made a smoked turkey breast and it came out great with a nice smoking flavor.
So I like the Flavorwood and think it is a good product at a good price. The only thing I think could be a little better is the directions for using it.
I will be recommending this product to all my friends

TRESemme Color Revitalize

I am a BzzAgent and last month received some TRESemme Color Revitalize shampoo and the conditioner to try.

I have been coloring my hair for years and years. Has I have gotten older my hair has changed not only the color it is gray now but also it dryer and gets damaged easier.
The one thing I always hated about coloring my hair is how after a couple of weeks my color would start to fade and get brassy. So I would try not washing my hair has often but then my hair would not style well.
So after trying the shampoo and conditioner many times here are a few things that I noticed,my color does not fade and get has brassy. So that is great.
But the thing I really noticed is how soft my hair stays it will stay soft between shampoos. Before my hair would get so dry from styling it would be fustrating. The TRESemme products leave my hair soft.
I am very happy with the products and like how I can buy them at my local store for a good price

Review

If you judge this book by its cover you would probably think it was a spy/ love story and you would be right.

The story takes place during 1970's at the height of the cold war.
Life in Russia for Anna is cold and dreary existence. Anna meets Alexey and the two eventually become lover. Once the KGB finds out Anna is put in a position where she most become a spy for them. I think the book does a wonderful job of portraying life in the Soviet Union during the cold war. The spying part also seems very realistic not like it is often portrayed in many books and movies.The book was a slow but interesting read.

Scotch-Brite Bathroom Solutions line review and Giveaway

First just let me say. I Hate Cleaning The Bathroom. I have a huge bathtub and literally have to get in it to clean it.
Then there is no way to rinse off the cleaner.
So I have a old pot that I put water in to rinse of the cleaner. I
f I ever get a new bathroom. my tub with have a spray rinser like my kitchen sink and I will definitely get a porcelain tub. I have a cheap plastic one now an it is so hard to clean.
Well enough of that. I get frustrated just typing about it.

Now I have used the Scotch- Brite product line in my kitchen for years and totally love them. One of my favorites is the greener clean which are little soap loaded scrubbers made from recycled plastic bottles. They work great.
So I may not be excited about cleaning the bathroom but I sure am excited about trying out the Scotch-Brite Bathroom Solutions Line.

What comes in the Scotch-Brite Bathroom Solutions line and what did I think of them?
Up first is the Streak Free mirror cloth. I have some big mirrors in my bathroom so you can really see the streaks. The Streak Free mirror cloth works great the cloth is nice and heavy so it seems like it will hold up well to washing. When you use it to clean it kind of sticks to the mirror so I am guessing this is what makes it work. All I can say is that it does work and works great.

Next is the absorbent counter cloths these like the mirror cloth are reusable. They say are the package that it picks up hair and makeup. I some how end up with lots of hair on my counters and sinks and you know how are that can be to clean up. So I tried out the absorbent counter cloth on the hairs and it works good. I just wonder about cleaning these. It says you can clean in the dishwasher or by boiling them. I think I will boil mine after cleaning up hairs.

Next is the non scratch tub and shower scrubber I like the shape you can get into the corners with this and the scrubber is nice and light so it is easy on the hands.

The Nook and Cranny scrubbers works well for cleaning around my sinks and under the faucet handle which is always a pain in the but to clean.

Next I tried the Grout scrubber I am so glad I do not have any Grout in my bathroom. But I do have some in my kitchen so I tried it there. The Grout scrubber fits in the grout line nicely and cleans well. The one thing I did not care for is that you really can not clean the scrubber just rinse it off. So the dirt kind of stays on it.

Man I can not believe how many products Scotch Brite makes for cleaning the bathroom.
Only two more products to try, the angled scrubbers that help you clean all the tight spaces this product is similar to the scrubbers I use in the kitchen except it is cut at a angle to get in tight spots. I like these they work well and clean up nice.
The final item in the kit is the shower and bath scrubber which is my favorites because now it is so much easier to clean my huge bathtub. The handle is nice and long so I can clean the tub from the outside and the swivel feature works great. I LOVE this product.

April 29 will always be a special day for me. That is the day my wonderful daughter was born.
So I will always be able to remember the date of The Royal Wedding.
Up until Diana married Prince Charles I basically had no clue about any thing to do with the royal family.
It seems since the day of that famous wedding The Royal family has been in the news on a regular basis, and not always for happy occasions.
So it was nice to see the royal family come together for a special and wonderful celebration.

My Couponing

Just like lots of people I have been watching the show extreme couponing.
I find the show fascinating and disturbing at the same time.
I have always used coupons but never to that extreme. I usually save any where from $3.00 to $30.00 dollars on my grocery bill using coupons.
My biggest problem when using them is finding them in my holder.
After watching the show I got inspired to be more organized. I had one of those small file like coupon holders and could never seem to find the coupon I was looking for. I also tried putting my coupons in envelopes a envelope for cereal items a envelope for soap etc. That worked a little better but still not great.

So I decided to try the binder method that a lot of the people on the show use.
So I ordered some 3 pocket currency sleeves from amazon of course I used a code and did the free shipping so I had to wait a little for the sleeves to come. In the meantime I used a old photo album and that worked better than what I was doing before.

When the sleeves finally arrived I was so excited and they work great. I just wished I would have done this years ago I bought one pack of the sleeves which is twenty pages but that was not enough so I ordered one more set and now I have enough. So if you are a regular couponer like me that should be enough. Here is what my coupon binder looks like

I have been posting how much I spend at the grocery store.

What will our grandchildren think of the disposable plastic bag?

Will they see it as a relic of a bygone era?

It depends on the winner in a number of battles now playing out both in state and local governments, and between the bag manufacturers themselves.

If Oregon succeeds in passing the nation's first statewide ban on plastic bags, it will be over the strenuous objections of the plastics industry, led by South Carolina-based bag manufacturer Hilex Poly. Opponents in the plastic industry have waged an all-out campaign to deny that plastic bags pose a threat to the environment, even raising fears about the safety of reusable bags, breathlessly pointing to studies that show that unwashed bags — like any unwashed fabric — can carry bacteria.

Plastic-bag manufacturers using similar tactics helped defeat a previous statewide bag-ban bill in California last year, and have taken on local initiatives all across the country.

In each case — both in Oregon and in California — state legislators have sought not only to protect their local environments, but also to standardize retail practices across two states already dotted with city- and county-level bans. Nationwide, 21 local communities have taken action to ban plastic bags, with Evanston, IL currently debating whether to become the 22nd. Other communities have chosen to tax the bags instead, with Montgomery County, Maryland, passing a five-cent plastic-bag tax on May 3.

Why all the fuss?

In Montgomery County, officials cited pollution to local streams and rivers that lead directly to the Chesapeake Bay, and from there, to the Atlantic Ocean, where scientists have identified a collection of plastic debris comparable to the better-known "Pacific garbage patch" that's widely described as being twice the size of Texas.

There are other good reasons to avoid plastic bags — from the petroleum products used in their manufacture to their effect on wildlife when ingested — which is why many shoppers choose to carry their own reusable bags, whether their local community taxes or bans them or not.

But now, the forces behind the current misinformation campaign in Oregon and others aimed at bag bans at the community level are even attacking companies that offer green-minded shoppers a reusable bag option.

A lawsuit making its way through the U.S. Circuit Court in South Carolina targets California-based reusable-bag manufacturer ChicoBag. Led again by Hilex Poly (along with Superbag Operating Ltd. and Advance Polybag), the suit alleges that ChicoBag "deceptively communicates that ChicoBag's products are superior to plastic bags, such as those sold by Hilex, with regard to environmental impact" and seeks to end all advertising suggesting that reusable bags represent an "alleged environmental superiority."

It's a move that smacks of desperation.

The plastic-bag facts used on ChicoBag's Web site to promote reusable bags over disposable plastics are clear and verifiable. They're collected from the Environmental Protection Agency, The Wall Street Journal, NOAA, the United Nations, and the Ocean Conservancy.

"I welcome the opportunity to engage with these corporate giants in a fair and impartial courtroom," says Andy Keller, president of ChicoBag. "Plastic bag manufacturers…have spent millions of dollars trying to persuade voters and elected officials against single-use bag legislation…[A]nd now they are trying to sue a small entrepreneurial company into silence."

So, if Hilex Poly has its way, our grandchildren will still be pulling plastic bags out of trees and streams long after we're gone, and our oceanic garbage patches will only continue to grow.

Don't let them win. Take your reusable bags every time you shop. Wash them like you wash the rest of your linens to keep them clean. And like Andy Keller and the leaders in Oregon, stand up to Big Plastic if they ever try to tell your town how to run its business.

The new Upstairs Downstairs ran for three episodes in December 2010. But somehow I missed it thank goodness for the BBC America Shop
I watched the DVD and loved it and now I am going to start on the original series. I know that I missed a lot of them, and it has been many years since I saw it.

First a little about Pepper

Pepper

Peppercorn berries grow in clusters, like grapes, albeit much smaller. The berries for black peppercorn are picked about a week before they are ripe, when at least one of the berries in the clusters shows yellow. As the berries dry in the sun on straw mats, their outer layer shrivels and turns black. For white peppercorn, the berry is as ripe as the farmer feels comfortable leaving it on the vine; some of the berries in the clusters show yellow, and at least one will show reddish-orange. Green peppercorns are picked at the berry's most immature stage, several weeks before the berries are ripe.

My Thoughts
The Artisan Pepper Collection comes nicely packed with good information on the labels about each of the six different kinds of pepper. I love fresh ground pepper and use it a lot my favorite type of pepper to use when cooking is white it works great in soups because you can add a lot without having little black specks in the soup. But I never realized that peppers like tea can have there own unique taste.

You get enough of each kind to really be able to try and see if you like it.
Three of the flavors taste like what you would expect a good pepper to taste like they are the Muntok white, Sarawak white and the Lampung black pepper.
The other three peppers are very different. They are the long pepper which is a long shaped pepper which you can actually snap in half and had it while cooking.
The comet's tail which has a little tail on it, this pepper is very interesting it has a peppery taste with a sort of lemon sweetness and the smell is very different .
The Australian mountain pepper has a herbal taste to it.
The collection is a great gift idea and a wonderful way to try out the different peppers to see if you like them and then buy the ones you like in bulk pepper which of course Salt Traders carries.

THE TUDORS

I just finished watching 4 seasons of The Tudors on netflix. I enjoyed the series. The last episode was great.
In fact I think it was my favorite one. So it got me thinking about some other shows that I loved like Lost and Battlestar Galactica and how disappointed I was with the endings. Nothing worse than a really great book, movie or show with a crappy ending. So if you decide to watch The Tudors and like it you will not be disappointed with the ending.

My dogs and I are old so we are not going to learn any new tricks. But if I had a puppy I would use Salmon Paws for training. Salmon paws makes several different products.
One is the WOWZERS which you use to sprinkle on your dogs meal. I used this for my older dog sometimes she just does not care to eat. so I sprinkle a little on her food so she gets some extra nutrition. She really likes this product.

What I thought of the book.
I am surprised at how much I enjoyed the book.
Normally I do not care for spy thriller plots.This one was a fun read.
I found the relationship between Charlie and Drummond very unique and entertaining.
I have not read the first book Once a Spy. So at the very beginning of the book I felt like I was missing some of the pieces so I would recommend reading Once a Spy before reading this one.

I received several products from the TheraBreath line to review.
The first product I tried is the TheraBreath Toothpaste. The toothpaste helps to fight cavities and is great for gum health and it is also stops bad breath.
Now the first thing I noticed about the toothpaste was the directions on how to use it.
I know how to brush my teeth and I learned several years ago to brush my tongue.
The TheraBreath Toothpaste also tells you to brush the inside of your cheeks and the roof of your mouth. I have never done that before but it makes a lot of sense that cleaning your teeth and mouth would help to stop bad breath.
TheraBreath Toothpaste like all the TheraBreath products contains the patented oxygenating compound OXYD-8 which help to eliminate bad breath.

So what do I think about the toothpaste?
Well I have been using it for over a month and the first thing I noticed was that it does not foam up like most toothpaste do. That is because it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate which can cause dry mouth and there by cause bad breath. The other thing that is different is the taste or I should say lack of taste. You really can not taste any flavor when using this toothpaste.
So it is very different than what I am use to using , so it takes some getting use to. It seems to work well at cleaning my teeth and it does help my dry mouth.

The next product I tried is the TheraBreath oral rinse.
I do not use mouth wash I do not like the taste of mouth wash and it seems to cause me to have bad breath.
Well the oral rinse is different it does not contain alcohol which most mouth washes do.Alcohol can make your mouth dry and cause bad breath.
So what did I think of the oral rinse?
Well I really liked this product the taste is very light and my mouth felt clean after using it.

The next product is the TheraBreath lozenges
I had my husband try this product first. For some reason he likes to drink his morning coffee before he brushes his teeth. YUCK so you can imagine how bad his breath is. So he took one of the lozenges after his morning coffee and then I smelled his breath after and I was in shock, his bad bad breath was gone.
I take medication that makes my mouth dry. So later that day when I would normally be drinking water for my dry mouth I tried one of the lozenges and boy was I surprised at good they tasted and how well they worked for my dry mouth.

So I am still getting use to the toothpaste. But I really liked the rinse and the lozenges. If you are suffering from dry mouth or bad breath definitely give these products a try. My only problem with them is the price is on the high side. But if you suffer from bad breath or dry mouth the higher price is well worth it.

The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the first book by the author that I have read. The plot is a nice little mystery that if you are a fan of Agatha Christie or authors like her you should enjoy the book. The book is old written in 1908. I found the book the most interesting not because of the story line. What I found interesting and disturbing at the same time was the what I would call the better than you attitude of the main characters.

My shopping trip

I rarely go clothes shopping in fact I fact I do not like shopping at all but I really needed some new clothes. So I hate paying full price for anything in fact I will not pay full price. So last week I went clothes shopping because I know this is the time of year there are some real bargains out there. So I think I did pretty good.

I went to my local Peebles and got everything in the picture for $21.00
You may not be able to see everything but I got the following
3 tops
1 pair of blue jeans
1 pair of capris
1 sweater

I was sent several products from POPCORN INDIANA to review and give my honest opinion.My son and husband jumped right in to help me with this review. The bags were practically empty before I could even get my pictures taken

First up is the SEA SALT popcorn
My husband opened this bag of popcorn. He complained that the bag was hard to open and I think he is right the bags are a little harder to open than the average snack bags. But the Sea Salt popcorn is wonderful My husband loved the taste of this one it is similar to the popcorn you get at the movie theater with out all the fat.

Next up was the Aged White Cheddar my son and I really liked this one the cheddar taste was nice and tangy and the great thing was that you did not get a mess all over your hands like some other cheese popcorn's

The Kettle corn I have been to a lot of different types of festivals over the years and many of them have kettle corn. I think this is has good or better than any Kettle corn that I have had.

Next we tried the Sea Salt Chipins What a neat product these are so good. they kind of remind me of corn chips which makes sense because popcorn is corn.

The final bag was the White Cheddar Chipins if you are a fan of nacho chips you will like these.

My thoughts about the products
I like fresh popcorn made on the stove not in the microwave so I do not normally eat bagged popcorn. I could not believe how fresh and light the POPCORN INDIANA product line is and I loved the fact that none of the products we tried had any trans fat.The one problem we all agreed on is that the popcorn and chips are so light that you could easily eat way to much.
The price is good from $2.29 - $3.99 depending on the product. The selection is great they have lots of flavors.
Of course you can buy POPCORN INDIANA products on line and if you are lucky enough to have a Costco Wal-Mart or Walgreen retailer near you they carry the product line.

What The Heck

My husband and I went away for a few days. Now when we go away it is not unusual for something strange to happen.
But I think this is one of the weirdest things yet.
My husband was in our room and I did not feel like getting my key out so I knocked on the door. I have a habit that when I knock on a door of the hotel room I always put my eye up to the peep hole.
So I heard my husband say hold on I will be right there.
I said I know I can see you. Yep that is right I could see him and everything else in my room. The peep hole on my door was on the wrong way.
So now when I go away some where I will be checking my peep holes.

Mossy Bayou Foods Cajun Goodies Gift Box review and giveaway

I recently got the chance to try the Cajun Goodies Gift Box from Mossy Bayou Foods.
The gift box is package well for shipping and looks very nice you get the following items in the gift box
The Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce

Bayou Blend Seasoning

To try out the products I made supper

I used the Bayou Blend Seasoning on my baked chicken. I really like that it does not contain any MSG or salt. I have to be careful with MSG . The Bayou Blend has a nice pepper kick to it with out being over powering.

I topped the chicken with a little dab of the Cajun Chow-Chow if you like hot this is the product for you the chow -chow is strong and a dab will do for most people.

The next two items are my favorite ones.
The Louisiana popcorn rice. Normally I serve my rice mix in with other ingredients but I wanted to really taste this rice so I made it real simple with some butter and a little shaker cheese. So I asked my husband what he thought and he said you know I do not like rice but this is not to bad. My son and I both like rice and thought this was really nice and fluffy and very tasty. We really liked it.

Louisiana Swamp Sauce (love the name) Man is this different it is a hot sauce with a smoke flavor.
I love this stuff it is not like any hot sauce I have had before. To me it has a more vinegar and smokey taste than a hot taste. I put a few shakes on the greens beans before serving and the taste was great.I highly recommend this product.

Mossy Bayou foods has a very nice selection of product that taste great. I was really surprised at how good the prices were for everything on the site. The Cajun Goodies Gift box that I reviewed is priced at $16.50 which I think is a great price.

Was there any thing I did not like? I thought all the food was great. But there was one thing I thought could be improved and that is the packaging of the Louisiana popcorn rice it comes in a very good package similar to a coffee bag package but unlike a coffee bag it does not have those little tags to reseal the bag and the bag did not have directions for making the rice which I think some people may need.

Lift and Support

Lift and Support can really hurt. I am getting older so my breast are sagging, so I recently bought a couple of those lift and support bras.
Let me tell you they really do lift you up but they also squeeze everything together. So the problem I have is that everything seems like it is going to pop out.
I thought these kind of bras where for older woman we need lift and support but I also want to cover them up.
I do not want to have a wardrobe malfunction.
Talk about hurt these bras take some getting use to. The first few times after I took the bra off my breast were killing me . All that squeezing and lifting they should come with a warning to only wear for a few hours at a time until broken in.

So What a Wool Dryer Balls? They are balls made totally out of US wool, So what do they do? The balls are similar to dryer sheets and also help your clothes to dry faster.

MY experience with the Willow Store Wool Dryer Balls

My first thoughts about the balls was how cute they are, and they would make a nice bridal shower or housewarming gift.
So I did a load of laundry and decided to test the wool balls.
One thing I was worried about with using the wool dryer balls was that they may make a lot of noise but they do not.
First I wanted to see if my clothes would dry faster the wool dryer balls can reduce the drying time up to half.
So I set my dryer timer on for 15 minutes and placed a pair of jeans in the dryer to dry.

Then when the time was up I removed them and did the same thing with another pair of jeans only this time I used the dryer balls.
I did not notice any difference both the jeans were still wet and the ones with the dryer balls did not seem any dryer.
So I tried the test again only this time I use a couple of undershirts.
Boy could I tell a difference this time.
The shirt dried using the wool dryer balls was dry. The shirt not using the wool balls was still wet.
So next I used the wool dryer balls on a load of clothes that normally get a lot of static cling when I dry them in the dryer.
The wool dryer balls worked nice, no static cling and the clothes were nice and soft.
So I am very impressed with the wool dryer balls.
I think they are a great eco product.
They replace dryer sheets,last for years and cut down on drying time.
The price is good and no more having to remember the dryer sheets you just leave the wool balls in the dryer.
So was there any thing I did not like about them? Yes just one funny thing you need to remember to leave them in the dryer when you take your clothes out. The wool balls are like socks they can get lost some how. So you need develop a habit of making sure you leave them in the dryer.

One of Lifes little mysteries solved

The neighbors next to me have had horses for years and over the years I have had lots of horse crap in my yard. Now I use to think that one my dog was bringing it over. If you have dogs you know that for some reason crap can be appealing to them. Or that the horses got into my yard which some times they do. So I was out walking the dog in the yard today and some of the horses were out.
All of a sudden I big pile of crap comes flying at me. So finally the mystery has been solved. The horses can actually kick the crap over the fence.

ECO COLORS review

When I was younger I had a lovely natural reddish brown hair color that would get lots of compleiments.
But I started to go gray young. I am not complaining because going gray is alot better than losing your hair.
I know because I went through a period were I lost some hair, but I will post about that some other time.
So I have been using hair color for years in fact back in the 80's I had to bleach my hair because
I could not get any hair coloring that would cover my gray.
So I have used just about every name brand haircoloring out there and I have not really noticed any big difference in them.

Here is my hair before using the product

My personal experience using EcoColors.
I received the light brown haircoloring kit which is a shade lighter than what I have been using
Now before using any new hair coloring product you should do the allergy test.No problems for me with this haircoloring.
That is one of the really neat things about EcoColors most people that are allergic to other brands do not have a problem with EcoColors.
One of the first thing I noticed about the kit is the gloves are really nice and it comes with a cap to cover your hair, that is way better than the plastic bag I normally use.
The next thing that I really noticed was the smell or I should say lack of smell the EcoColor does not stink like other haircoloring products do.
So after I mixed up the color I started to use it but it was very thick so I had to squeeze the bottle really hard. Then I saw on the instructions that if the color is thick put the bottle in warm water for a few minutes. That took care of that problem.
So I colored and then washed and conditioned my hair and it was very soft and manageable much nicer than after using other products.
Now normally a couple of weeks after coloring my hair it starts to lose the color and get brassy and dried out but EcoColor did not do that. I am very happy with the condition of my hair and the color after a month.
So was there anything I did not like about the product?
The price is higher than what I normally spend, but this is a case of you get what you pay for. I think the product is much nicer than national brands.
I wish I could buy it locally at the grocery store instead of online. Since I have to buy on line I have to make sure I plan ahead.
